Burning Cross Fenced Pastures

Postby Chad Simmelink » Fri Apr 10, 2009 8:13 pm

We have a pasture cross-fenced with braided aircraft cable and fiberglass posts. I was obviously going to pull the posts, but does anybody have experience just leaving the wire lie and burning through it.

Thanks,
Chad

We had a big wildfire that our neighbors lit last year burn thru quite a few miles of our fence, made about the same way.
granted. The fire was much hotter and burning under much more severe conditions.
at worst 30% of the wire was too brittle to be of any more use.
about 20-25% of the posts were too damaged to use.

I think that under prescribed fire conditions you'll see a lot less damage because of the conditions and heat of the fire.
I don't think I would spend the man hours putting the wire on the ground, just burn thru it. That's what I would do anyway. your milage may vary.
